Before running a campaign on the Taboola network, it’s important to be aware of these requirements for your landing pages. Landing pages refer to where the user goes after he or she clicks on your campaign item. It is the page that holds both your content and third party content, such as advertisements.
All landing pages must comply with the following policies:
Additionally, your landing pages must comply with the policies below. These guidelines are not exhaustive, and we will reject or remove any campaign items that we believe to be harmful to our publishers or users, even if the campaign items otherwise comply with all of our guidelines.
User Experience
V Hyperlinks on landing pages must be labeled accurately and must lead to a destination that the user reasonably expects when they click the link.
V Content on landing pages should be properly written in the appropriate language for the territory that the campaign targets.
V The language of your title must match the language used on the corresponding landing page.
V If the landing page contains a video designed to sell a product/service, a link to the complete video transcript must appear at some point prior to product purchase
X Landing pages must not be of poor quality.
Examples: Your website should not have multiple typos, misaligned images, empty landing pages, or anything with an extremely unprofessional look and feel.
X Landing pages must not provide a negative user experience.
Examples: Your website should have proper navigation features that lead users to a part of the site that the user reasonably expects when they click the link
X Landing pages must not be general home pages, directory listings, general index pages, or PDFs unless explicitly authorized by Taboola, in our sole discretion.
Examples: Your landing pages must not direct a user into a message board or forum post.
X Landing pages must not have an unreasonable amount of popups or overlays. A user must be able to easily close any popup advertisements or overlays that appear in connection with the landing page.
X Landing pages must not have a paywall prior to page access.
Example: An online newspaper must not promote its articles if it requires the user to make a payment prior to accessing the article.
Disclosure
V If anyone providing a comment, endorsement, or testimonial was compensated (including with complimentary or discounted products or services), this must be clearly and prominently disclosed on the landing page.
Example: “These are paid testimonials. All reviewers were compensated to provide their product reviews.”
V Even if a user testimonial or claim about a product or service is true, if the claim or testimonial does not reflect the typical experience that a user can expect, you must clearly and prominently disclose that fact.
Example: “Results not typical.”
V If it is not otherwise obvious, a landing page that promotes a product or service must clearly disclose that it is promotional in nature. Where a user may confuse promotional content with editorial content, the landing page must include "Advertisement" clearly and prominently at the top. Disclosure cannot be written in a size, color, or placement that makes it difficult to read or likely to go unnoticed by users.
V If a landing page is affiliated with or promoting a particular product or service, the landing pages must make this affiliation clear to users.
Example: If a landing page owner is compensated for promoting content about a particular product, the landing page must disclose that its owner is compensated for promoting this content.
Example: If a landing page appears editorial in nature, but it is, in fact, promotional, it should disclose [Sponsored by: Company Name] above the body text.
V Any before/after photos on landing pages must be 100% accurate and must include any appropriate disclosures to ensure that viewers are not misled.
V Clearly and prominently disclose all material terms and promotional offers.
Example: Don't offer a free trial or "free" product if there is any related charge, such as shipping and handling, unless any related charges are clearly and prominently disclosed at the same time.
X Landing Pages that promote a product or service must not give users the impression that they are viewing a page that is not promotional in nature. It must be clear to users that they are viewing promotional content, and not news or editorial content.
Advertisements and Other Third-Party Content
All advertisements and other third-party content must comply with the following policies. This includes both (1) the advertisements or third-party content on your landing page and (2) the websites that the user lands on after clicking on these advertisements or third-party content. This also includes any subsequent gallery or other pages a user might see after clicking on the advertisement or third-party content.
Taboola strives to maintain a network of relevant, reliable, and appropriate content so that audiences can expect a certain quality of content recommended by Taboola. And we believe that expectations of quality extend beyond the widgets. This is why we issue detailed guidelines for landing page practices. In the same way we monitor the content in your campaigns’ headlines, titles, and landing pages, we similarly monitor the content quality in any other third-party ads or content recommendations that appear on your landing pages. We have found that certain third-party practices reduce the quality of the Taboola network.
Must Comply With Taboola Policies
V All advertisements and other third-party content must comply with the following policies:
Disclosure
V All advertisements and other third-party content must disclose that they are advertisements (if it is not otherwise obvious), and, where appropriate, they must also disclose the source or provider of any promoted content, products or services. See Taboola’s Branding Text Guidelines for the proper way to disclose the source of sponsored links.
V Any content or links on the landing page that are sponsored by a third party must clearly and conspicuously be labeled as sponsored.
Example: A Taboola widget on a landing page must contain additional text disclosing that the widget contains sponsored links by Taboola.
Example of a compliant third party recommendation widget:
Important Note!
Some third parties may implement practices that make it more difficult for you to detect when the content they provide on your landing page violates these guidelines, for example by selectively hiding infringing content from certain people but showing it to others. You are ultimately responsible for all of the content on your landing page, so we recommend that you take measures to review your landing page in a manner that will allow you to circumvent these practices (e.g., block cookies from third party content recommendation platforms).
